Autism

Autism, PDD NOS, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Aspergers, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD, all of these are categories, or labels of children with Autism or on the Spectrum.  Children with this diagnosis have a wide range of strengths and deficits.  There is a lot of information floating around about autism. Lost of speculation about what causes autism and also what cures it.  At this time, there is no known cause and no known cure.  What we do know is that early diagnosis and subsequent therapies provide for the best outcomes.  Therapies in the areas of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Discreet Trials, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Sensory Integration, Social Skills Instruction, and others provide the best outcomes for children diagnosed with this disorder.

If you think your child is pervasively delayed in key areas of development of speech, social skills, sensory issues, physical abilities, or is demonstrating significantly unusual behaviors like arm flapping, screaming, head banging, toe walking and the like, discuss these concerns with your pediatrician and request a referral to a neuropsychologist for a complete evaluation.

Please download this free report about the legal requirements of school departments for children with Autism.  "My child has autism, what should schools provide?"
